Why is LA MONTANITA COOP DELI & CATERING a Farm to Restaurant participant?
Chef and Department Team Leader of the deli, Jeffrey L Moses, buys from farmers via the La Montanita Coop Distribution Center in Albuquerque. While they don't have a direct relationship to the farmers, they are updated about new products becoming available and through whom. They order more depending on demand, seasonality and availability. It works for them because it's more efficient and convenient for them to use one source for all the farmers. They believe it's more convenient for the farmers as well. Why is buying local important?
Part of La Montanita Coop's mission is to support local agriculture and commerce. In doing so more money is generated back into the local economy, which serves us as a business just as well as it does the farmers/vendors we try to help.Who does he buy from?

If the demand isn't present, the decision to increase local buying lacks the security we need to invest more revenue in local farmers. Addressing these issues is a variable issue that we deal with month to month depending on the price of the product."What is the average annual percentage spent on local foods?
