Come to the Green & Sustainable Business Networking meetings, every 3rd Friday of the month. All green businesses and anyone interested in green or sustainability issues is invited—you don't have to be an Alliance member!
Next meeting: Friday, February 15, 7:30am at Whole Foods Community Room
Public Meeting to Review Sustainable Santa Fe Plan
The public is invited to review the city's draft Sustainable Santa Fe Plan on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Southside Library Community Room. The Santa Fe City Council passed resolutions
committing the city to writing a Sustainable Santa Fe Plan and endorsing the U.S. Conference of Mayor's Climate Protection which calls for
reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 7% below 1990 levels by 2012 and
provides actions for local governments to reduce the emissions from
their own operations and communities.
Sustainability can be defined as taking care of the needs of the present
generation without compromising the ability to meet the needs of future
generations. It also can be defined as the intersection between three
principals; environmental stewardship, economic health; and social
justice. This plan acknowledges all three of these principles by
incorporating values beyond just the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
The plan was drafted by the Sustainable Santa Fe Commission, a citizencommission that advises the Governing Body on issues of sustainability, with input from the City of Santa Fe staff Green Team and other contributors.
