Education5 Reasons To Shop With Locally-Owned, Independent Businesses
Did You Know . . .For every dollar spent locally, 45 cents stays within the economy. But only 13 cents spent at a non-locally owned store stays in our community. Approximately 4200 or 90% of all businesses in Santa Fe are small, locally owned businesses. Independent businesses are Santa Fe's largest employer. By spending money with them, you'll help provide new jobs. 78 % of the community work for locally owned employers. Locally owned businesses recycle a higher percentage of profits back into the local economy. This helps keep taxes in our community to support schools, parks, police and fire departments, etc. Regionally, national chain stores rarely create an increase in retail spending, however they do create a net loss in local employment. Two major chains, when compared with local businesses, gave 75% less to charities than locally owned businesses.
