Santa Fe Alliance promoting independent business and community

Accomplishments

Fall 2003

  • Angelou Economics presented the results of their study at a press conference hosted by the Alliance. Their findings confirmed that buying from locally-owned businesses delivers greater economic benefit to the Santa Fe economy than purchasing from national corporations, and that the Santa Fe Alliance has an important role in Santa Fe's economic development.
  • 1000 Friends of New Mexico, a non-profit group dedicated to the promotion of smart growth in New Mexico, invited the Alliance to make a presentation to members. The event was later broadcast on Public Access Channel 8 television.
  • Feature articles appeared in the Santa Fe New Mexican and the Albuquerque Journal North newspapers reviewing the rapid progress of the Alliance.

Summer 2003

  • The Alliance hired Angelou Economics to do an independent study specific to Santa Fe which examines the impact that shopping at locally-owned businesses has on the Santa Fe community.
  • Vision and Mission Statements are formalized.

Summer-Fall 2003

  • The Alliance participated in economic development planning discussions in collaboration with the City of Santa Fe. Discussions resulted in an economic development plan, formulated by the city, which will serve as a road-map for the future. Angelou Economics recommended that the Alliance develop a "Buy Locally-Owned" campaign.

Spring 2003

  • The Alliance published its first directory, "Santa Fe's Guide to Locally-Owned Businesses." After only five months, the Alliance had 231 business members!

Winter 2002-2003

  • The Alliance began the first of an on-going series of "First Friday" meetings. These monthly meetings offer networking, educational and social opportunities to business and community members.
  • The Alliance opened its office at 510-1/2 Don Gaspar, compliments of Rikoon Carret Investment Advisors
  • Numerous articles appeared in local papers announcing the formation of the Alliance and its plans to offer resources and support to Santa Fe's locally-owned business community. Articles of Incorporation were certified by the Office of The Public Regulation Commission, New Mexico.

Fall 2002

  • A number of people came together to talk about how to strengthen the Santa Fe community, how to make Santa Fe more self-reliant, and how to create more and better jobs that would allow local people to stay in Santa Fe to work and raise their families.
